A History of Lowry Liquidation
In April 1948, Gerald and Mary June Lowry purchased a hardware store in downtown Tahlequah, OK. The business expanded as the economy permitted.
In 1980, David and Debbie Lowry purchased the store. With assistance from Gerald, the store grew into Tahlequah's largest hardware store, expanding to five buildings. In April 1983, the need to expand was so pressing that a new store location was chosen. This is the present location.
New Years Eve 2004, Lowry's experienced our first tragedy. The hardware store was deliberately set on fire. Thanks to the firemen of TFD, the outside structure of the building was saved. The inside, however, was a complete loss. David was faced with a very tough decision. Do we close for good and retire? Do we rebuild and continue as Lowry's Ace Hardware? Or, do we rebuild and move in a completely different direction? Well, as you can imagine, the choice was to rebuild and move in a different direction.
David immediately got hard to work making contacts with wholesale suppliers, liquidators, and auction houses. With the help of a friend, he established some key relationships with companies and individuals that allow us to purchase the merchandise we bring to our customers.
The city of Tahlequah responded very well to our new retail adventure! With the continued support and patronage of our loyal customers, we have grown to two locations in Eastern Oklahoma: Lowry's of Tahlequah and Lowry's of Tulsa.
So next time you're in our neighborhood and looking for a bargain, visit us! 1598 S Muskogee Ave in Tahlequah, or 71st & Sheridan in Tulsa. We'd love to meet you and help you find a sweet deal! Because at Lowry's, It's All About A Bargain!
